SPACE CAMP TO HOST HEALTH FITNESS SOLUTIONS PHYSICAL EDUCATION LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE FRIDAY APRIL 18, 2008 10:00am-1:00pm
Health Fitness Solutions, in collaboration with Alabama A&M University, The Univesity of Huntsville in Alabama, Space Camp, and The Aviation Challenge Program will conduct the Health Fitness Solutions Physical Education Leadership Challenge, at the Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. 
This initiative, developed by Tomas Leclerc with the Health & Physical Education Program is for freshmen to senior students majoring in physical education enrolled at Alabama A&M University, The University of Alabama in Huntsville, Oakwood University, University of North Alabama, and Athens State University. “The purpose of this activity is to engage participants in problem-solving scenarios that promote leadership, communication, and teamwork skills” said Wendi Scott, Assistant Manager, with the Water Training Facilities at the Space & Rocket Center. “It is a lot of fun and participants will enjoy the outdoor environment”.
“Space Camp has a long tradition of excellence in training young individuals and adults as leaders, and we appreciate the opportunity and their support towards this event,” said Heather Leclerc, President of Health Fitness Solutions. “Our mission is to promote healthy lifestyles, and we are excited to support this educational health & fitness event in the community”. “Enrichment of activities of this caliber will feed into the experiences that we provide our pre-professionals in Physical Education”, added Instructor Corine Williams, with the Health & Physical Education Department at Alabama A&M University.
“This is a great opportunity for our future physical education professionals to interact with students from other universities and work as a team to develop these valuable skills” said Tomas Leclerc, Assistant Professor with Alabama A&M University. “We are inviting these schools from the North Alabama Area to participate and I am hoping they all join us at the Space & Rocket Center”.
Registration is $20.00 dollars per participant, and space is limited to ONLY 8 students per school. You must register quickly and secure a spot with your payment of $20.00 dollars no later than April 11, 2008. Only a certain amount of slots have been allocated for this activity so it is important to register quickly. Participants will engage in various outdoor activities including a low-rope challenge, therefore students are encourage to dress appropriately (fitness, exercise attire).
All supporting members of this event share a strong commitment to physical activity while developing future coaches, teachers, and administrators. “It is important for our Health and Physical Education students to begin collaborating with other students in the field in order to establish future professional relationships”, added David Kyle, Associate Director of Health & Physical Education at University of Alabama in Huntsville.
